He'd previously received his M.D. from Johns Hopkins University's School of Medicine, prior to which he earned his Bachelor's degree at Columbia University. He joined the faculty of Columbia during his fellowship year when he accepted the job of Assistant Professor. He soon progressed to full Professor and afterwards to Associate Professor. After nearly 15 years on Columbia University's faculty, he became Professor of Clinical Urology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, a place he fills in addition to his duties at Beth Israel Medical Center.
