This text reviews on the outcomes of a cooperative evaluation of grapheme-to-phoneme (GP) conversion for correct names in French. This work was carried out within the framework of a basic evaluation campaign of varied speech and language processing devices, including textual content-to-speech synthesis. The corpus and the methodology are described. The outcomes of four systems are analysed: with 12-20% word error charges on a listing of 8,000 correct names, they give a fairly correct picture of the progress achieved, the stateof- the-art and the issues still to be solved, within the domain of GP conversion in French. As well as, the sources and collected data will likely be made available to the scientific and industrial group, with the intention to be re-used in future benchmarks.
