The Bay has an area of around 1,553 km2, including 1,960 islets, a few of which are limestone. It's not the cliffs themselves that make Ha Long Bay unique, but their sheer number. The core of the bay comes with an area of 334 km2 using a high density of 775 islets. Ha Long Bay is really a UNESCO World Heritage Site, plus a popular travel destination, situated in Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam. The limestone in this bay moved through 500 million years of formation in various conditions and environments. A huge bay, dotted with nearly 2,000 mostly uninhabited limestone cliffs, the breathtaking scenery is very similar to that with the Andaman coast of Thailand, Vang Vieng in Laos and Guilin in China. The evolution of the karsts with this bay has had 20 million years within the impact of the tropical wet climate.
